We use the BESS test to measure the initial blade sharpness.

Measuring projection distance

PROJECTION DISTANCE

The knife is clamped and the projection distance is measured to calculate the sharpening edge angle.

Software guided knife sharpening for precise milling calculations.

SOFTWARE GUIDED

All the collected data is entered into our software for milling calculations.

SETTING CALIPERS

Calipers are set using software values to ensure precise angle.

CALIPER MEASUREMENT

Calipers are then used to set our equipment. We are not free-handing.

Milling on cubic boron nitride - CBN abrasive,

CBN MILLING

Now we begin milling the knife edge on cubic boron nitride (CBN) abrasive.

Deburring sharpened knife on felt belt to remove weakened steel.

KNIFE DEBURRING

Then we debur the knife on a felt wheel. This step removes weakened steel to retain the blade's edge.

BESS test to measure final sharpness.

FINAL BESS TEST

Lastly, the sharpened knife is BESS tested to measure the final sharpness.
